The Denver Broncos are a Poorly Coached Football Team

It feels like the issue is coaching to me. The game plan was definitely suspect today. When you start the day with a blocked punt for a touchdown essentially, just keep plugging away. Play some smash mouth football. Push the other team around a bit.

Instead, you reach a point where not one, but two completely obvious blocks in the back negate a touchdown, and on the ensuing drive, facing 2nd and one, you attempt a fake draw that then turns into a fake reverse that then somehow is supposed to develop into a deep, downfield attempt, when you can simply go to the ground or make use of the down and distance to move the chains. Denver has one of if not the best rusher in the league right now. So somehow in this grand play design where Keenum is going to need 4 seconds in order to execute both double fakes and only then set his eyes downfield, in this grand plan, the only thing that was not accounted for is the left tackle making any effort to block the right end. Okay...

And as if that wasn't bad enough, Sanders, the supposed recipient of the 2nd fake hand off, comes across the face of the unblocked edge rusher and for some unknown reason decides to literally jump out of his way, so as to ensure that the defender remains unimpeded to the quarterback who unsurprisingly fumbles the ball immediately.

To top that off, now let's throw some punches under the pile so that what should have been a first down which is now a fumble becomes an even larger problem due to the fact that what should have been your plan from the start, to "feed the hot hand" that is Lindsay, now becomes an impossibility for the remainder of the game due to his ejection.

So let's do all this on the road against a good if not great defense, and then still somehow have a chance to win in the 2nd half. Great plan, Vance!

Denver is playing spirited ball, but they are lacking a big picture plan for what to do with their high-energy, early-season success. Why not just utilize the high-probability offensive game plan like running the ball, creating screens, etc. therefore eating up time of possession while keeping the opposing offense on the bench? Once establishing control of the line of scrimmage, mix in some play-action, and get the ball out quickly to your skill position players, entrusting Keenum to exploit the matchup weaknesses that your skill players present by checking into route concepts that leverage the defense's need to contain Lindsay?

On a day when there are this many self-inflicted mistakes, how can you look past the coaching decisions that led to them? Denver would be a better team with a coach that had less to prove about himself and more focus on instructing the team to execute at a mile-high level. Challenge he team to step up and dominate the opponent. This was the perfect game for Denver to set its message for the remainder of the season. The only problem was that message was long-winded, and the messenger was killed in the process of its delivery. Step it up, Broncos! What the heck?
