The Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs released their first injury report this week ahead of their Monday Night showdown against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Unfortunately for the Broncos, they lost one of their tight ends for the season.

It was reported earlier this evening that second-year tight end Jake Butt tore his ACL during the teams light walk-through. This is a tough blow for the Broncos and Butt who is now recovering from his third ACL tear during his football career.

Head Coach Vance Joseph said in a press release released by the team that Butt would return “stronger than ever”.

“Jake has worked his tail off to recover from his previous injuries, and we feel terrible for him. He’s a great kid who’s developed into a very good football player. We have no doubt Jake will come back stronger than ever.”

One has to wonder if Butt’s football future is in doubt after suffering his third ACL tear in this short period of time. He will likely miss most, if not all of the upcoming offseason and likely will start the 2019 season on the PUP. So he faces yet another long recovery before he can return to the football field for the Broncos.

As for the rest of the injury report, cornerback Tramaine Brock was the only Broncos to sit out the practice today. However, there is no need to worry. After practice, Head Coach Vance Joseph said they were being cautious with their veteran corner and that he is feeling good.

“He wasn’t feeling up to going full speed. We thought just being smart with him one more day should help him get healthy.”

As for the Chiefs, they had two key defensive players sit out Wednesday’s practice. Those two being OLB Dee Ford(groin) and S Eric Berry(Heel). Their statuses will be one to watch throughout the week. OLB Justin Houston also sat out but he was listed as NIR(Non-Injury Related) so he’ll likely return to practice tomorrow.
