While in Atlanta for the Super Bowl, Ryan Edwards, Andrew Mason, and Steve Atwater have been joined by several former NFL players. Dan Marino sat down with 1st and 10 at 10, and talked a little bit about being with John Elway at the Senior Bowl.
Marino was asked about what he and Elway discussed while observing the players, especially the quarterbacks. Marino didn’t really give any obvious insight, but reiterated that the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine are about observing how the kids work, and getting some one-on-one time with them to see how they do in the interview process.
After that, it turned to Marino’s playing days, and the one thing he said that really fits with MHR’s focus the last few weeks is that Steve Atwater is a Hall of Famer. It may carry much weight with the voters, but you can add Marino to a long list of current members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame who believe that Atwater should be in.
There is no bigger endorsement than one from a former player who knows what Atwater meant from the game. Add in the fact that Dan Marino is also one of the greatest to ever do it, and the questions shouldn’t be ‘if,’ it should be ‘when.’ It really is just a matter of time for Atwater at this point.
