On the MHR Radio Podcast, Ian St. Clair and I sat down with Andrew Mason and Ryan Edwards to talk about the Denver Broncos search for a new head coach. There are five candidates who have been at the front of every story, but in talking to the guys from 1st & 10 at 10, there seems to be a direction they believe the team will go.
That direction is Mike Munchak. Don’t turn up your nose, Broncos Country. Ryan and Mase made very good arguments for what Munchak could bring to the organization. First and foremost, his experience as a head coach puts him squarely in line with the desire to bring in a coach that knows his way around the pitfalls of being the guy in charge. He has also been a huge part of the improved offensive line play for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Their sack rate dropped dramatically under Munchak, and the Broncos desperately need help in the trenches.
Adam Schefter is reporting that Munchak has interest in the Broncos job.

It looks like this could be a solid pairing. With a need for organizational stability, and help on the offensive line, Munchak tics all the boxes. He also has a track record for getting more out his players than their talent level would indicate is possible.
Mase talked to us about his record with the Tennessee Titans. In his three seasons in Tennessee Munchak wen 9-7, 6-10, and 7-9. Not stellar records, but considering his quarterbacks were Matt Hasselbeck, Jake Locker, and Ryan Fitzpatrick in those three season, he appears to be able to squeeze a little blood from a turnip.
If the interest is mutual, and Munchak is the hire, it won’t be the sexy pick. What it will do is point the Broncos in a more stable direction. With all the names of young coordinators, and the search for the Next Sean McVay, the stability of a veteran head coach with a proven track record for maximizing talent could help to bridge the franchise to the eventual quarterback of the future, and set the team up for success for the foreseeable future.
Would you like Broncos to hire Munchak?
