Update: The Broncos were blown out at home by the Chiefs backup quarterback, 30-6.
What a difference two weeks makes in the NFL.
The Denver Broncos were spiraling after having another win stolen from their grasps in the final seconds and starting the seasons 0-4, while the Kansas City Chiefs looked unbeatable at 4-0.
Since then, both teams have gone in the opposite direction. The Broncos, at 2-4, are feeling confident again and playing excellent defense having held their last two opponents to zero touchdowns. The Chiefs, at 4-2, are finding they cannot rely on Patrick Mahomes to carry them to every victory.
The Broncos will need to play really good football again this week if they are to take down the mighty Chiefs. While Head Coach Vic Fangio will likely try to implement similar schemes the Chiefs’ previous two opponents used, he views each game as its own kind of deal.
“Every game has its own personality to it,” Fangio said on Tuesday. “The Colts played well on that day in all three phases of the game and got some critical takeaways that stopped some drives. Kansas City wasn’t at full strength, but I think the Colts just played well. I think the main thing is every game has its own personality.”
What it will come down to is how well the Broncos play within their own scheme. A win this week would likely light a fire that could burn Denver all the way to the playoffs. That is how critical Thursday will be.
