The Denver Broncos (0-4) have found a new way to lose a game every week of the season and now must take their winless record on the road to face the Los Angeles Chargers (2-2) to try and avoid becoming the first 0-5 team in Broncos history.
According to Bovada, the Broncos are 6.5-point underdogs to the Chargers in this game, with an over/under of 44.5.
Through four games, the Broncos have yet to prove they can finish a game and that is something Head Coach Vic Fangio mentioned on Monday.
“You just have to do it,” Fangio said of finishing a game. “They get the ball back there with 1:30 to go or so. The first couple plays we have a couple good rushes, actually knocked the ball out, but it bounced right back to them. Then we got hit with the penalty so that puts the ball on the 40 and now with a field goal game, you’re only one 20-yard, 25-yard gain away. They still had timeouts and time left so really the way—once they got the ball to the 40, time really wasn’t that much of a factor at that point. We just have to be able to make some plays to finish it. We came close. The rush helped early and then we just got beat in coverage going after that.”
The penalty was a ticky tack call, just like the one that helped the Chicago Bears win in Week 2. But good teams overcome those and the Broncos are not a good team right now. They’ll need to play a perfect game to overcome Philip Rivers and the Chargers on the road. Can they do it?
