Broncos vs Browns injury update: Ja’Wuan James, Jeff Heuerman still out

The Denver Broncos have a slew of players with some bumps and bruises. Here we break down who is not participating and who is limited as the team prepares for the Cleveland Browns.

The Denver Broncos put it all out there last week and paid the price on injuries this week. The list is long, but looks worse than it actually is. Head Coach Vic Fangio noted that Von Miller, Phillip Lindsay, and Todd Davis will all be fine this week and the limited participation is just precautionary.

The two players in doubt for Sunday will be right tackle Ja’Wuan James and tight end Jeff Heuerman. Joe Flacco also won’t be playing and could be staring an season-ending injured reserve here soon, but Fangio isn’t ready to close that door just yet.

“By the end of the week,” Fangio said of Flacco’s roster decision, “I think we’ll have a better understanding after getting all the medical advice and going over what plan we’ll take long-term with him.”

Brandon Allen will get the start and the Cleveland Browns defense could be licking their chops facing a guy who has never started a game in the NFL until this week.

“They could be,” Fangio said of whether or not the Browns will be more aggressive versus Allen. “There are always two schools of thought there. Sometimes if you are too aggressive, in some ways make it easy on the quarterback. He’s got to get it out quick kind of and throw it, get an easier and quicker read possibly. Sometimes some people think play coverage and let’s see if he can figure it out and by time for the rush to get there. I’m sure it will be a mix.”

That would make having James back at right tackle kind of a big deal, but Allen is going to have to make due and try to make enough plays to meet Flacco’s 15 points per game offensive output through eight games. I am sure he’ll do fine there.
