The Broncos went into last weekend’s game against the Detroit Lions with serious questions on the defensive line after a series of injuries. Fortunately, they got Dre’Mont Jones back after he’d essentially missed both the Texans and Chiefs games, and the rookie defensive end wasted no time making his presence known.

Jones racked up 2.5 sacks on the day, along with 3 solo tackles and 2 assists with 2 tackles for a loss. He played a major role in keeping the Lions’ struggling offense off balance, and now he’s reaping the reward for his excellent work: AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Per the Broncos’ website, Jones is just the 3rd Broncos rookie to receive Defensive Player of the Week honors, joining D.J. Williams and Von Miller in that exclusive group. That makes Jones the Broncos’ first non-1st round defensive rookie to receive this recognition. He’s also the 3rd rookie to earn the award in 2019, joining the SteelersDevin Bush and the RaidersMaxx Crosby.

Jones isn’t the first Bronco to earn a Defensive Player of the Week nod this year: Safety Kareem Jackson earned the honor two weeks before for his standout performance against the Texans. Combined with Drew Lock’s week 14 Rookie of the Week honors, it’s been a December to celebrate in Broncos Country.

Now all that’s needed to cap off Drewcember & launch the Broncos into a promising 2020 is a playoff-denying home win over the Raiders to finish the season. Go Broncos!

UPDATE: It’s safe to say Jones is excited about the honor.
