Karl Mecklenburg discusses Joe Flacco with the Broncos

The great Karl Mecklenburg joined 1st and 10 at 10 on Orange and Blue 760.

The Denver Broncos offseason has taken an interesting turn. From the Joe Flacco trade, to the possibilities in the draft, there is a lot to digest. Karl Mecklenburg joined Ryan Edwards, Andrew Mason, and Steve Atwater on 1st and 10 at 10 on Orange and Blue 760.

The Flacco trade seems to be a bit of a bandaid to some, but Mecklenburg talked about his success in the NFL, his history as a leader, and the understanding that Flacco (and Keenum) is not the long term answer anyway. Bringing him in gives Denver options moving forward that Keenum’s contract may not have afforded the team.

As far as the draft, Mecklenburg thinks Denver should pass on a QB. Atwater asked him who Denver should pick at the tenth pick, and corner, ILB, defensive tackle, or offensive lineman were the first words out of his mouth. Not Drew Lock or Kyler Murray.

“I wouldn’t go with a quarterback. I think they’re much more likely to find their guy next year.”

Moving forward, Denver is going to be forced into a decision. Take a QB this year, and it means ignoring the upcoming group of talent in the next few drafts. Not drafting a QB in the 2019 draft means gambling on the guy you want being available when you are on the clock. It will be an interesting couple of months, as John Elway and the Broncos go through free agency, and prepare for the draft.
