Good morning, Broncos Country!

When the news of Irv Brown’s death spread, it hit a lot of people.

To get an idea of how much, Terry Frei had a great tribute for Brown in the Greeley Tribune on Feb. 3. Brown passed away on Feb. 2 at the age of 83.

On Saturday at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, people gathered to celebrate Brown’s incredible life and the impact he had on so many — as a baseball coach at the University of Colorado, an NCAA basketball referee and later as an iconic sports talk radio host in Denver.

If there’s a Mount Rushmore for Denver/Colorado sports media, Brown is on it. On the latest MHR Radio Podcast (Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Stitcher) Adam Malnati and I paid tribute to Brown. We also talked about the other three people who should go on the Mount Rushmore. Adam and I were in agreement Brown is joined by longtime sports columnist Woody Paige, either Ron Zappolo or Les Shapiro and then Dave Logan. Though the older Denver Broncos fans might want to add Bob Martin or Larry Zimmer.

We both went with Logan since he’s called all three Super Bowl wins for the Broncos and has been a fixture on Denver sports talk radio since the 1990s.

But the point of the conversation was to pay tribute to Brown, who influenced so many lives over the course of his 83 years.
