As we know, Sanders is entering the final year of his contract and the Broncos have to decide whether or not to exercise his option by March 12th. Add in that he is a soon to be 32-year-old receiver recovering from an Achilles injury and you understand why the Broncos would consider approaching him about a contract restructure.
In the past, Elway has done this with veteran players(even Peyton Manning) and I wouldn’t be shocked if he doesn’t do this with Sanders. Behind him, they have 2018 second round pick Courtland Sutton and 2018 fourth-round selection DaeSean Hamilton vying for increased playing time. You also have Tim Patrick flashing as well, so the Broncos have options there if they decide to move on.
Now, will they move on from Sanders? Well, 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis says he expects Sanders to be back next season BUT also says to never doubt Elway this time of the year.
Broncos have til March 12 to exercise Sanders' option for 2019. Option would trigger $1.5M full guarantee of his $10.15M salary (also a $100K workout bonus for $10.25M total payout). I'm expecting Broncos to pick up option, but tough to predict Elway this time of year. #9sports https://t.co/26l77BQxv6

I honestly could see this going either way right now. Sanders skill set fits in well with what Joe Flacco does best and that is the deep ball. Now, how Sanders is recovering factors into this but everything has sounded positive on that end so I am not too worried about.
Now again, the Broncos do have three young receivers behind Sanders who they think could step up. They could also use the money saved by parting ways from Sanders to get another impact receiver or use that money to improve another area of need.
Stay tuned Broncos fans because this one could interesting as we move forward.
