Is an extension in the works?

According to Denver 7’s Troy Renck, the Denver Broncos will meet with cornerback Chris Harris’s agent during the NFL Combine. Could an extension be in the works?

Harris is entering the final year of his contract and has been one of the top Broncos on defense during his successful tenure with the Broncos.

He will turn 30 years old this June but is still the best slot cornerback in football and among the top overall cornerbacks in the game right now. Re-signing Harris seems like it would be a high priority for the Broncos, especially with a defensive minded Head Coach in Vic Fangio. I’d also imagine there would be mutual interest from both parties to get this deal done.

Keep in mind Harris gave a hometown discount once already to stay in the mile high city so hopefully, any extension talks progress smoothly this time around.

Keeping Harris has to be a priority because of the Broncos uncertainty at the cornerback position moving forward. Former first-round pick Bradley Roby is expected to hit the free agent market and likely not returning, Tramaine Brock is a free agent, and 2018 rookie Isaac Yiadom struggled a bit last season as well. So keeping Harris would be a very smart move for the Broncos.

Harris is entering his 9th NFL season and has been the definition of consistency for the Broncos during this period. He has started all 16 games all but twice during his career(15 games in 2012 and 12 games in 2018) and quickly became one of the better corners in the game during this period.

During his 8 NFL seasons in the NFL and with the Broncos, Harris has totaled 462 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 83 pass deflections, 19 interceptions, and 4 defensive touchdowns during his Ring Of Fame worthy career.

Hopefully, the Broncos and Harris can agree on money and make sure Harris can continue to add to his already impressive legacy with the Broncos
