Well there you go!

Denver Broncos General Manager John Elway told reporters just a little bit ago that the Broncos will exercise the options on wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and defensive end Derek Wolfe.

Head Coach Vic Fangio spoke fondly about Sanders earlier today which led to Sanders tweet out about his desire to make his last season with the Broncos a good one.

“Hopefully it’ll be a major role for us. Emmanuel’s a hell of a player, been a highly productive receiver in the league for a long time. He was having an excellent year last year with the Broncos. We expect him to be back full speed.”

Sanders is covering from an Achilles injury so his health going forward will be something to watch but all signs seem to point to him recovering ahead of schedule. If healthy, Sanders will serve as the Broncos number one receiver with youngsters Courtland Sutton, DaeSean Hamilton, and Tim Patrick fighting for playing time behind him.

The option on Derek Wolfe’s contract was never really in doubt in my opinion but it is nice to get some confirmation that he will indeed be back.

During Wolfe’s seven seasons in the NFL, Wolfe has totaled 265 tackles, 26 sacks, 14 pass deflections, and 1 interception during his time with the Broncos. One thing that stat line doesn’t tell you is the sacks he has helped Von Miller get during his time as well. Wolfe eats up double teams allowing Von to get one on one’s and helping with get the sacks and make the big plays we routinely see him make. So this really was a no brainier for the Broncos.

I think it is safe to assume that both of these veterans are likely entering their final year or years with the Broncos so lets hope they have a good and healthy final season with the team.
