Von Miller had a rare moment when speaking to the media, revealing a little more than he probably wanted. On 1st and 10 on Orange and Blue 760, Ryan Edwards, Andrew Mason, and Steve Atwater broke down Miller’s comments about Dwayne Haskins, and how he feels about the QB.
Miller was asked about Haskins’ visit to Denver, and his snake skin John Elway throwback jersey. His answers were typical Von statements. Nothing controversial, very complimentary, and then a bit of a slip.
You know, I spent some time with him. He’s a pretty cool dude man, and I like him a lot. You know if he’s, uh, you know if he’s there you know, whenever we pick my pick is to pick him. But like I said, you know, I’m not running the show so, whoever we get, I’m OK with it. i just wanna get the best available and if we do that, I’m good with that.
It is not the norm for Miller to make statements like that. Ryan makes the point that Miller tried to pull up from his statement at the end, but his feelings about Haskins were obvious. Now the question is why? As Ryan said, perhaps he can see his window closing. Von, and other players like Chris Harris, Jr. are on the back side of their prime years in the NFL. The piecemeal cobbling together of the QB position has to be wearing down those players.
Steve makes the point that drafting a QB makes sense. The Broncos will need a QB of the future to step in when Joe Flacco’s career is over. His time in Denver could be short lived, and having a player waiting in the wings to take over will be paramount to the future success of the franchise.
There is no telling what Denver will do with the 10th pick in the draft. Trying to figure it out has been nearly impossible. However, it sounds like if Von Miller gets his way again, Dwayne Haskins will have his name called when the Broncos are making their first selection.
