The Denver Broncos will hold their rookie minicamp this weekend. The rookies arrived on Thursday to get fitted for equipment and received their jersey numbers. In all, a total of 43 rookie players will be attending the minicamp.
For new Broncos head coach Vic Fangio, it will be a chance for him to begin his install for the season. It’ll also be his first chance to see the Broncos 2019 Draft Class since drafting them a few short weeks ago.
“It’ll basically come down to the numbers and how many guys we can get in here,” Fangio said immediately after the draft. “What happens is you might be light at a certain position or two, so you have to just practice to a certain degree. But we’d like to get them out on the field if we can, and we will in some shape or form. We just don’t know what that will exactly look like yet. I’m sure we’ll bring in a couple guys for tryouts, so that will fill it up a little bit, but you’re never quite sure.”
The NFL has strict rules in place for these rookie minicamps. These will fall under the “Phase Three” rules of offseason workouts. That means no live contact and no full pads allowed. However, there will be 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills.
Of the 43 in attendance, six are actual draft picks, 17 are undrafted free agents, and 20 will be there to try-out for the team.
