The contract saga between the Denver Broncos and Chris Harris Jr. has ended with a one-year deal to provide the star cornerback with a raise. Harris will receive $12.05 million in 2019, which was a nice bump from the $8.9 million he was originally scheduled to receive. That is $50,000 more than the Broncos offer to Kareem Jackson in free agency.
What helped spur the deal is Harris gets $650,000 reporting bonus for showing up tomorrow. Another $600,000 reporting bonus for training camp. #9sports https://t.co/Ou11G4asOu

“We have a lot of respect for Chris as a player and for everything he’s meant to our organization,” Elway said. “This contract adjustment recognizes his value to our team and the high expectations we have for Chris as a Bronco this season and hopefully for years to come.”
Broncos CB Chris Harris tells me that as the news broke that he agreed to terms on a 2019 raise, he hadn't even yet given word that he accepted, nor told his wife. Now Harris says while originally he would not budge for $12M, he's amenable focusing on free agency for next year.

Harris, 29, had demanded a contract extension initially, but after months of negotiation the two sides agreed on a one-year raise and an apparent parting of ways in 2020. That will be a tough pill to swallow for Broncos fans who view Harris as a lock for the Broncos Ring of Fame one day, but it is the direction John Elway has decided to take.
As one of the highest graded cornerbacks in 2018, Harris deserved this raise. Now the Broncos can make a push for the playoffs this year with an elite-looking secondary with the additions of Bryce Callahan and Kareem Jackson.
