Austin Schlottmann came to the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He has played both center and guard coming out of college, while also playing heavily during the preseason last year. He was cut for the final-53 man roster, but was quickly added to the teams practice squad.
Austin Schlottmann Profile
Height: 6-5 | Weight: 296 pounds | Age: 23
College: TCU | Experience: Second Season
The good
While maybe a bit undersized for the interior offensive line positions, Schlottmann was able to come in as an undrafted talent and fight his way to the second-team in training camp last year and ultimately onto the Broncos 10-man practice squad.
That might be a good sign for him heading into his second year.
The bad
I feel like he would need to add some bulk to really compete for playing time at guard, but perhaps he might end up more of a reserve center for the team. We’ll have to see where he lines up in training camp.
Austin Schlottmann’s roster status with the Broncos
At guard, he’ll need to compete for playing time against veterans Ron Leary and Connor McGovern, along with G/C Sam Jones. Then you add rookie Dalton Risner to the mix and Schlottmann is definitely on the outside looking in with that group.
If McGovern ends up being the starting center, then maybe that opens up some opportunities for Schlottmann if he can show he can play both guard and center if called upon. For Schlottmann, it will be all about how versatile he makes himself during training camp.
