The Denver Broncos are winding down the open training camp sessions this week as we head into Day 16. Tuesday will be the final open training camp date on the schedule. The Broncos will host join practice sessions with the San Francisco 49ers later this week as they prepare to face off next Monday.
Injuries have begun to pile up, especially at key positions like tight end. The good news is that Jake Butt returned to practice on Sunday and had no setbacks throughout the session. The Broncos are in dire need of healthy tight ends after losing Austin Fort for the season last week.
“It was,” Head Coach Vic Fangio said of Butt on Sunday. “I think he went through it, albeit a small portion of the practice, with no setbacks, so that’s good.”
The Broncos will also be expanding rookie fullback George Aston’s role with starter Andy Janovich out for 6-8 weeks with his own injury. Aston’s development could be critical for the Broncos run game during the first month of the regular season, so that is definitely something to watch for.
Stay tuned to Mile High Report as Broncos camp continues.
