What a way to open up the season for the Denver Broncos. They’ll be heading to the west coast to play on Monday Night Football against their oldest and most bitter rivals in the Oakland Raiders. That rivalry has waned over the last few decades as the Raiders haven’t been good in a long, long time, but most Broncos fans will still look at them with contempt.

Game Preview

For the first time all offseason, the Raiders are actually not a sideshow for the rest of the NFL to laugh at. The team released Antonio Brown on Saturday and had their first full day of peace and quiet in months on Sunday. The players will likely come out with playoff-type intensity to prove they didn’t need Brown anyway.

This puts the Broncos in a tough position. The defense will need to come up big and keep the Raiders offense out of rhythm. Joe Flacco should expect a tough go at it early on, but if the Broncos can get their running game going they should come out of Oakland with a victory.

This is the NFL and a divisional game to boot, so it could go either way. Oh and one last thing... Hope you are ready to stay up late, because this game is going to be a late one.

Here is how to watch.

Odds

The Broncos opened slight underdogs, but the line rose to Even last week. Then the Antonio Brown mayhem broke loose and the Broncos are now favored in this game by 2.5 points. Could this be a classic trap game now or will the Broncos come out firing on all cylinders to start the season?

Matchup History

This rivalry goes back to each teams founding. The Broncos, unfortunately, needed about 15 seasons to field a consistently competitive football team and they have been climbing out of that hole every since. The Raiders lead the all-time series 63-52-2 and even own a winning record in Denver at 29-27-2. That needs to change and if trends continue it will. Since 1995, the Broncos are 33-13 against Oakland.
