Hopefully next Saturday in Miami the Broncos legend gets that knock to welcome him to football immortality.

Good morning, Broncos Country!

By this time next week, we will know if Steve Atwater is headed to Canton, Ohio.

After what shamefully unfolded over a week ago for Denver Broncos legend Randy Gradishar, and for the people who have played or coached for this organization, we’re all a little apprehensive about the prospects for the Smilin’ Assassin. By a little, I mean very. I got emotional about the Gradishar news on the MHR Radio Podcast.

Over the last few weeks, some of the MHR staff has pushed the 27-in-27 series we did last year on social media to bring Atwater’s legacy front of mind, and, hopefully, to sway the decision makers. I’m not here to rehash any of that or to preach what should happen. All of that has been said.

I simply hope it finally happens for the Broncos legend and his family. That he’s recognized for the impact he made in the NFL, but also for the man he is. I hope come next Saturday afternoon in Miami, Atwater gets a knock on his hotel room door from Pro Football Hall of Fame president David Baker. The knock that lets him know he’s set for football immortality.
