The Denver Broncos have announced several roster moves on Saturday as they prepare to travel to play the New England Patriots on Sunday. The game is still on despite the teams running backs coach Curtis Modkins contracting COVID-19.
Let’s break down all of the roster moves they made today.
Released
- QB Blake Bortles. With Drew Lock looking like he’ll be available to play, the team has moved on from veteran Bortles. Brett Rypien showed he could be a reliable backup in the event of Lock missing time, so there was no need to keep Bortles around.
Promoted from Practice Squad
- DT Sylvester Williams. The Broncos former 2013 first-round pick had rejoined the teams practice squad earlier this season as injuries began to mount along the Broncos interior defensive line. The eighth-year player will potentially return to the lineup for Denver for the first time since leaving in free agency in 2017.
- RB Jeremy Cox. The Broncos lost rookie UDFA LeVante Bellamy to IR and Melvin Gordon III will be inactive due to an illness this week. Elevating Cox will put him behind Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman on the depth chart in Week 6.
- ILB Josh Watson. Elevating Watson was likely a move to help on the special teams side of things. As a rookie in 2019, he played in eight games and figures to help where ever needed in the coming weeks.
