Building around a young quarterback

Has the NFL been bereft of QB talent? Are real franchise QBs like unicorns? Not from where I’m sitting, John Elway just so happens to suck at finding them.

As I was sitting down tonight to figure out what to write about for Horse Tracks, the first article from the NFL news I clipped jumped off the page at me. Take a peek at it...it isn’t just the top 5 young QBs David Carr highlights...he also digs into the 15 best QBs in the NFL today.

!Spoiler Alert!
Drew Lock didn’t make either list.

That’s not surprising to me though. THE key weakness of having your football operations ran by John Elway is that your team is going to absolutely suck at finding talented quarterbacks. To add to that pain, he also likes job security so he puts a lot of blame on his coaching staff and keeps churning them in and out because of bad results without ever establishing offensive continuity that would help young quarterbacks succeed in the NFL.

At some point, I’d love to see our team try to take a path with less resistance and more modern outlooks instead of constantly looking for QBs who remind Elway...of Elway.
