In Week 10, the Denver Broncos head to Nevada to take on the Las Vegas Raiders. It’ll be the first time these two teams meet at the Raiders newest home. Who knows, maybe they’ll stay in this new city for more than a few years this time around.

Game Preview

The Broncos are 3-5 and struggling to find a winning formula, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Despite all of the injuries the Broncos have faced on defense, they have relatively been able to hold things together and keep the game competitive until late.

The time of possession the Broncos offense is giving the opposing team’s offense has been devastating to the defensive once things get midway through the second half. Which means finding some sustained drives in the first half of games.

One way to do that is to stop running the ball on second and 10, which is something Offensive Coordinator Pat Shurmur has been prone to do. That tendency has usually led to third and 8 or so on many of those play calls. Shurmur mentioned that third and medium issue, but it is unclear if he has correctly identified his predictable play calling on second down as the issue there.

“I think there’s some things that we’re doing well—the shorter third downs—I think we’ve been very, very good,” Shurmur said this week. “Some of the medium third downs, we have to get better, obviously. When we get it down to a shorter third down, we’ve been better of late.”

I’d like to see the offense get into more of a good mix of running the ball on first and second down, but also mix in some short pass plays on those second and longs to keep the opposing defenses guessing there.

Broncos Betting Odds

According to SportsBetting.com, the Broncos opened 5-point underdogs earlier this week. However, the line has been steadily moving the right way as they are now just 3.5-point underdogs to the Raiders heading into Sunday.

Matchup History

Since winning Super Bowl 50, the Broncos have been hanging on to this rivalry by the thinnest of margins. In their last three wins, they beat the Raiders by a combined total of eight points. However, they have lost their last three on the road by a combined total of 28 points. They are on the road again this week.

Let the weekly fan confidence survey go on that roller coaster ride! Much like the Broncos offense, we go up and then we go down. Every week is another roller coaster ride of highs and lows. With such a young offense, we probably should have expected this.
