When things start to go badly, they go really badly. The Denver Broncos are coming off one of the ugliest losses of the year. If this sounds familiar its because I said the same thing after their defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this year. The Las Vegas Raiders made Drew Lock look like a perennial backup and, maybe, that’s exactly what he actually is. This game against the Miami Dolphins might be one of his last chances to prove otherwise.
Game Preview
The fate of the Broncos this week will rest on the decision-making of one Drew Lock. And if the past several weeks are any indicator of where things will go today, we’re in for another disappointing afternoon.
Head Coach Vic Fangio said he is hoping to see some efficiency from the offense in this game, but all of that efficiency must come from where Lock decides to go with the football on any given play.
“Just to continue to operate efficiently,” Fangio said. “We need to make sure we’re going to the right guys. These guys are a multiple defense, they’ll give you some different looks. We got to get on the right people whether it’s run or pass, sustain our blocks, and make a special emphasis to try and get the running game going.”
It struck me that Fangio commented about ‘going to the right guys’ as that is exactly the issue we have seen from Drew Lock this season. Throwing to the well covered first read when there are one or even multiple wide open targets elsewhere on the field on the play. We’ll just have to see if Lock is able to make any sort of progress towards a viable NFL starting quarterback in the coming weeks.
Here’s how to watch.

Broncos Betting Odds
According to SportsBetting.com, the Broncos were 3.5-point home underdogs earlier this week and that is exactly where things are on gameday. The spread is a bit tight considering how well the Dolphins have been playing and how poorly the Broncos have, so perhaps we’re in for a closer game than we all expect.
Matchup History
The Dolphins are a team that have always had the Broncos number. It didn’t matter if Denver was good that year or bad that year, when the Broncos play Miami in South Florida its almost always a loss. They are 1-8 in Florida with the only win, of course, a Tim Tebow win.
It’s not just in Florida, though. The Broncos struggle to even win home games against the Dolphins with just a 5-4-1 record there.

Fan Sentiment
One astute observer noted that when the Broncos win confidence goes up and when they lose it goes down. Judging by this chart, that user is 100% correct.
