Pondering offseason improvements to the quarterback position

The Denver Broncos season is now meaningless, so let’s ponder how to see this team get better.

As we draw closer and closer to the end of another dumpster fire of a season by our beloved Denver Broncos, my thoughts are naturally drifting toward the open skies and happy thoughts of change.

But what’s dampening the start of my inner arm-chair GM thinking is reality. The reality is that John Elway has yet to show a smart move outside of signing Peyton Manning to the team when it comes to quarterbacks.

And it is obvious to me that our quarterback situation is the #1 problem with this team.

So when I chat with the other writers here at milehighreport.com, we keep throwing around names like Sam Darnold, Matthew Stafford, and even Carson Wenz. We talk about not being in position to draft one of the two young guns coming out of college this next season.

But will the Broncos have the chutzpah to make the change? It just doesn’t seem that likely to me. There are too many excuses: injuries, Covid-19 shortening the offseason work for Lock, and his youth. I think it is far more likely the Broncos play it safe and kick the can down the road trying to develop this young QB into something resembling an average NFL starter.
