The Denver Broncos will get a little bit of a break in their usually tough strength of schedule each season. They had the second toughest strength of schedule to start last season, but by years’ end it had fallen to 12th toughest.
That’s where things stand heading into next season. The Minnesota Vikings website broke things down in an interesting way for each team, which shows us how Denver will fare against their division compared to other opponents.
12. Denver Broncos
Strength of schedule: .512 (131-125)
Record of Division opponents (KC, OAK, LAC): 48-48
Record of Rotation opponents (NE, BUF, NYJ, MIA, NO, ATL, TB, CAR): 66-62
Record of Corresponding Finish opponents (TEN, PIT): 17-15
Games against teams with 10-plus wins: 5
Those 10-win teams are the now defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs (x2), Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, and the possibly soon-to-be Tom Brady-less New England Patriots. Overall, it feels like a manageable schedule if the team can figure out how to score points on offense again.
One website, ranked the strength of schedule based on their own record projection for 2020. They found Denver facing a gauntlet of strong playoff contenders and that they would end up with the fourth-toughest strength of schedule when its all said and done.
Who knows how it’ll actually play out. The only data we have to go on is where teams finished the 2019 season. That leaves Denver with a theoretical strength of schedule that ranks 12th overall right now.
