Good morning, Broncos Country!

When it comes to sports, debates never stop.

That is especially true for controversial decisions — or at least what’s viewed as such. When it was announced that assistant coaches and coordinators for the Denver Broncos won’t attend the NFL Scouting Combine, the reaction was about what you would expect ... positive, negative and meh.

On the MHR Radio Podcast, Adam Malnati and I were fortunate enough to preview the Combine with Trevor Sikkema of The Draft Network. The decision by Vic Fangio was a topic we discussed.

As Trevor said, he’s not sure what to think about the decision to keep the assistants and coordinators in Denver since it hasn’t been done before. Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams will do the same. But I’m with Trevor in that it could help streamline the process of putting the big board together and limit the cooks in the kitchen.

The process to put a team’s board together is difficult enough, so if you limit the people in the initial faze of the process, it could help early on. The other thing it does is limit the amount of people who can talk when they’re not attending Combine events — to the media but, more importantly, other teams.

Since this hasn’t been done before, it’s hard to know how well this will work. I can see the other side as well when they say they like more people involved since the process to put a board together should be difficult.

We will see come April and the NFL Draft how successfully this plan plays out. In reality, it will take a skosh longer than that since the players the Broncos select have to get on the field first.
