According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Marcell Dareus is going to be available very shortly. Broncos’ Country may be pretty familiar with Dareus from the days when there were debates about the number 2 overall pick between him, Von Miller, and Patrick Peterson way back in John Elway’s first draft as General Manager.
The #Jaguars are not expected to pick up the contract option for DT Marcell Dareus, sources say. The option would have guaranteed Dareus nearly $20M, and now frees up cap space and cash for Jacksonville. The deadline to pick it up is tomorrow.

Dareus landed on Injured Reserve last season after undergoing a core muscle surgery, but he was a difference maker in 2017 after coming to Jacksonville in a trade from the Buffalo Bills. He is not a premier pass rusher, but is the kind of space eating run defender that could really boost the Broncos’ front 7. He is a gargantuan man at 6’3 330 lbs and an underrated athlete for that size.
I’ll wind up diving into his tape in the coming days, but from what I know about his game there is little doubt in my mind that he’d be a terrific fit for the Vic Fangio defense. He could fit into the defense as a 5 technique in base personnel and slide inside to the 1 or 3 technique in nickel.
