File this under news I didn’t expect to hear today, tomorrow, or ever. John Elway and the Denver Broncos have reportedly reached to the Cincinnati Bengals about trading up to the number one overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
.@Bengals I have been told are listening to offers for the #1 pick in the @NFL Draft from :

1. @Chargers
2. @MiamiDolphins
3. @Broncos
4. @ChicagoBears
5. @Buccaneers
This bombshell was quickly dispelled by Benjamin Allbright of Broncos Country Tonight who noted that this inquiry was just Elway liking to know the price tag on everything, even if he’s not actually pursuing it.
Just for fun, let’s take a look at the ole NFL Draft Trade Chart to see just how expensive moving up from the 15th overall pick could be.
Bengals pick is worth 3000, so that is our baseline.
Broncos first pick, second pick, third pick, and next years’ first pick is worth around 2200-ish. Add in another first round pick in 2022 and maybe the cost is somewhere near the neighborhood.
Well that was fun. I think we can be rest assured that Elway isn’t actually interested and is, as Allbright pointed out, just wanting to know the price tag on something.
