The writing was on the wall for Joe Flacco and the Denver Broncos once the team agreed to terms with quarterback Jeff Driskel. It will be Driskel, not Flacco, backing up Drew Lock in 2020. The team announced on Thursday that they will waive Flacco with a failed physical designation.
Broncos just informed former Super-Bowl MVP Joe Flacco that he is being waived with a failed physical designation, per source.

Flacco now joins a group of free-agent QBs looking for work.
Three Super Bowl MVPs in headlines this week: Flacco waived, Foles traded, TB to TB.
Flacco had a pretty rough go at it with the Broncos. In eight games, he threw just six touchdowns to five interceptions and took a whooping 26 sacks in that timeframe. He was completely underwhelming leading the team to a 2-6 record before getting injured and ultimately replaced by Lock.
From a salary cap standpoint, the waived with injury designation will mean all $13.4 million of his dead money hit will count against the cap this year.
The failed physical designation means that the Broncos could hypothetically be on the hook for a CBA sanctioned injury protection payment of $1.2 million, under Art. 45.

But it may be a long time before that's settled, and won't meaningfully hurt the Broncos down the road. https://t.co/6Y2pIdEVCe
