The Denver Broncos trade for Jurell Casey was a bit of a surprise. John Glennon, the Titans beat writer for The Athletic, joined Ryan and Ben on Broncos Country Tonight to discuss the impact of the trade, and what kind of player Denver will be getting.
When asked about the reaction to the trade, Glennon mentioned that it, “came a little bit out of left field.” Casey for a 7th rounder has been viewed by many as a an excellent deal for the Broncos. Some might even consider it stealing.
It looks like Tennessee is looking to clear cap space, and Casey became expendable, as a means of clearing that space. Casey has been to five straight Pro Bowls, and was a team captain for six straight years. Glennon even called him the, “...heart of the defense in the locker room.”
Ben asked Glennon about Casey’s versatility, and the news there was pretty good. Obviously, he is a big body in the middle of the defense. He has been solid against the run and pass throughout his career. He will be able to play whatever role Vic Fangio and Ed Donatell ask him to play.
Fangio and John Elway have been quietly, and methodically building the defense through some big trades. Casey and A.J. Bouye will be huge pieces to the defensive puzzle in 2020.
