Free agency for the 2020 Denver Broncos is pretty much in the books as they spent big money trading for starter talent and signing unrestricted free agent talent in the last two weeks. While they landed starters at cornerback, interior offensive line, running back, and interior defensive line, they did not address the number two wide receiver position.
Mel Kiper of ESPN released his NFL Mock Draft 3.0 with all of that in mind. He still sees a playmaker outside as the Broncos biggest need with their first pick and Henry Ruggs III looks to potentially available with that fifteenth overall pick.
15. Denver Broncos
Henry Ruggs III, WR, Alabama
The Broncos have made a few solid additions this offseason, signing guard Graham Glasgow and running back Melvin Gordon and trading for defensive tackle Jurrell Casey and cornerback A.J. Bouye. They haven’t addressed left tackle — former first-round pick Garett Bolles could be on his way out after a disappointing tenure — or wide receiver, where they have Courtland Sutton but not much else. Ruggs, who ran a 4.27 40 at the combine, would be a great complement to Sutton’s size, as he could run crossers and catch deep balls from second-year signal-caller Drew Lock.
There is only so much a team can do to handle Patrick Mahomes defensively. Beating him and the Kansas City Chiefs for the AFC West title is going to come down to matching him blow for blow in a shootout style game. The hope there would be to have a defense that comes up big now and then to keep him from running away with it.
To achieve that goal, the Broncos will need a big play offense that can put points on the board consistently and frequently. Getting a guy like Ruggs would open a lot of things up for the offense and that has to be the priority.
Is Ruggs at or near the top of the draft board for you with the Broncos 15th overall pick?
