On Broncos Country Tonight, Perry joined Ryan and Ben to discuss the current state of affairs in Denver. She recently interviewed Elway, and he seemed to be content with where the Broncos ended up after their free agency period.
Obviously, Elway and Fangio have a plan in place. They have had a very smart and calculated offseason. Trades for players like A.J. Bouye and Jurrell Casey kept them out of bidding wars for players like Byron Jones and D.J. Reader. Graham Glasgow will be a key addition on the offensive line. Melvin Gordon will add to the offensive weapons for Drew Lock to play with. Nothing splashy, just smart moves that improve the team.
Now, heading toward the draft, it seems the GM and head coach are in the best spot possible. Most of the areas of need have been filled on defense. A few key pieces were added on offense, and Elway believes they are in a spot to be able to get exactly what they need from this draft.
As far as postponing, whether the NFL decides to move ahead with the draft or not, Elway made it clear he and his staff are ready to go. Perry mentioned that the move to keep most of the staff at Dove Valley During the NFL Combine actually benefited the team. As they dug into the college players on film, they were able to prepare without the distractions and time commitment that comes with the combine.
The current COVID-19 pandemic has taken its toll on the sports landscape. The NFL Draft could be the next big event to be pushed back due to the need to keep people healthy and safe. Elway may believe that postponing the draft would be good for the NFL, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t ready to make the 15th pick, or trade up, or back, or whatever he and Fangio decide to do.
