Let’s talk fan nicknames for a hot minute

Discussing historic nicknames while we churn through the days leading up to active free agency and the draft

Can we talk about a real problem in Broncos Country?

It is the offseason and while we have the combine keeping the fires stoked for all the draftniks out there, many out there may be interested in a little off-the-wall talk for a change of pace.

While news was breaking about the Denver Broncos trading the Jacksonville Jaguars a 4th round pick for A.J. Bouye, a conversation sprang up regarding the idea of rebuilding the No Fly Zone.

Look, I know we like our nicknames...it is kinda the cool swag that fangs get to hang onto about their teams. The Broncos have plenty of cool nicknames throughout their storied history: the Orange Crush, Albino Rhino, Smiling Assasin, No Fly Zone, TD, Stink, etc. etc. (Feel free to add more in the comments!)

But can we just please stop with hanging onto a moniker from an epic defensive back unit (the best I’ve ever seen play the game) from 2015 and trying to apply it to every move the Broncos make in the secondary please? It is tired and it is old and in this fan’s opinion, CHJ is the last guy from the No Fly Zone that we can even talk about (and that’s about to end too).

Why rebuild the NFZ? Let’s make something new...after all the defense Fangio runs is VERY differnet from what Wade Philips runs up front and on the back end. And until this team gets back to having winning football seasons, why would we even be blessing them with any talk of a nickname...those are earned and they are earned by being special. 7-9 isn’t that special last I checked (and let’s all take a moment to pour one out for my homie Jeff Fisher).

I’m curious to know what other fans think, though. Add to the conversation and let the community know what you think in the comments.
