Broncos are a playoff team entering the NFL Draft

New, comments

The expansion of the playoff format to seven teams for each conference, coupled with the draft going as Broncos Country hopes, should solidify that spot for Denver.

Good morning, Broncos Country!

The period between NFL free agency and the NFL Draft is a fascinating time.

Teams and fans alike hope they’ve made the moves required to improve from the previous season and then use the draft to get even better and younger. For the Denver Broncos, we’ve heard John Elway will buy defense in free agency and build offense through the draft. Come next Thursday, we’ll see how that plays out.

On the MHR Radio Podcast, both Adam Malnati and I think the Broncos are a playoff team right now. The additions have made Denver a better team; especially on defense. When you take into account each conference has expanded to seven teams for the playoffs, the Broncos were close to being in contention for the 2019 season when it was still six teams. The change due to the new collective bargaining agreement only increases the odds.

That doesn’t mean Denver will compete for the AFC West title because it is not close to the Kansas City Chiefs. But the Broncos are and should be in the hunt for a wildcard spot in 2020.

If all goes as planned in the draft, Denver should solidify that spot.
