Thoughts on the near future of the Denver Broncos, what Drew Lock means to their draft, and other NFL News

A couple of things just feel off right now...and no, it has nothing to do with the strange world of trying to do our part to slow down the current pandemic effecting our world.

No, the first thing that is missing is that I’m not hoping on this draft while fearing mistakes. Post Super Bowl 50, the Denver Broncos turned into one of the biggest clown fiesta franchises in the NFL. Every draft seemed to be the biggest deal with huge opportunity met with big risk.

The magical thing about every draft is that we look forward to new players to cheer for and a new infusion of talent into our team. It is exciting. But during the recent dark age of Bronco Country, the fear when talking to other Broncos fans was palpable. Was Elway going to screw up this draft too? Would he ever find a starter in the 2nd round? Would his staff ever get to the point where they were making sensible trades?

But this year just doesn’t seem to be that scary to me as a fan. The team has a sound head coach and a solid foundation of players to work with. We’re entering the 2nd year of Fangio’s tenure with the Denver Broncos. Elway has had two really impressive drafts in a row without anywhere near as many gaffes as what we’d seen from him in the past.

Which leads me to the second thing that seems off this draft year: I’m not looking one bit at any of this year’s quarterback class.

It is honestly so refreshing to have a young QB on the roster who looks competent and appears to still be growing and improving in his craft while taking that task seriously. Drew Lock has freed up this team to really hone in on improving the roster without needing to ransom their draft picks.

Now let’s get him some weapons and get loaded up for this NFL season.
