Here is why K.J. Hamler was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Despite selecting Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy with their 15th overall selection in the first-round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Broncos addressed the wide receiver position in the second-round. With their 46th overall selection in the second-round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos selected Penn State wide receiver K.J. Hamler.

The reason why the Broncos selected Hamler is pretty simple. To score points, create big plays, and challenge the Kansas City Chiefs.

The focus entering the offseason was to improve the offense. They wanted to improve the offense and surround quarterback Drew Lock with as many weapons as they could. They already have a pro bowl wide receiver in Courtland Sutton and a promising first-round tight end in Noah Fant. They continued this rebuild by adding the very talented and explosive Jerry Jeudy in the first-round and continued it by adding even more explosive K.J. Hamler in the second round.

Jeudy and Sutton will be your outside receivers while Hamler will do his work from the slot. He didn’t run at the Combine but his speed defiantly rivals Henry Ruggs III (maybe even faster) while Fant will be a matchup nightmare for linebackers and safeties.

That’s one dangerous sounding offense right there. Sutton is a true number one, Jeudy is a freak, Hamler can house it, and good luck to whatever poor sap is left to cover Noah Fant. We haven’t even mentioned Melvin Gordon and Phillip Lindsay yet either.

Hamler will be your slot receiver/gadget player/punt returner in 2020. His explosiveness and elite suddenness makes him a weapon from that position and can house it whenever he gets the ball. We’ll see him take jet sweeps and in the screen game as well. Like Jeudy, he’s shifty and freaky in the open field and uses his insane speed and acceleration to dust defenders. He’s also an experienced punt returner and the more you can do the better so I figure we’ll back there at least once in a while as well.

He can also split the safeties and track down Drew Lock’s deepest of throws as well. With Sutton and Jeudy receiving most of the attention outside, Hamler will be freed up to destroy one-on-one coverages.

I love this pick if you couldn’t tell.

If Hamler was the one and only receiver we added, I’d be much less excited. However, the addition of Jerry Jeudy and everything amazing that he brings will make Hamler that much more dangerous. Add in Fant and the Broncos are suddenly loaded with explosive athletes.

I’m excited to see this offense on the field and the progress they can make this season. The future is bright and now Drew Lock has everything around him to succeed in 2020. These are exciting and hopeful times Broncos Country!
