Good morning, Broncos Country!
Mike Shanahan is headed to the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame.
While expected, it was nice to get some positive Broncos news earlier this week.
The impact Denver’s former head coach had on the franchise and the NFL isn’t overstated. You see that with the offenses the league still uses, namely his son with the San Francisco 49ers and former offensive coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings.
To say Shanahan is deserving is the John Madden statement of the week.
Now it’s time to follow it up with an induction in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
On the MHR Radio Podcast, Adam Malnati and I celebrated Shanahan’s selection to the Ring of Fame and explain why he needs to get in the Hall of Fame.
Ranked in the Top-15 all-time among NFL head coaches in career wins, newest Broncos Ring of Famer Mike Shanahan joins Bill Belichick, Don Shula, Tom Landry, Chuck Noll and George Seifert with this distinction. https://t.co/oAgxk8rRis— Patrick Smyth (@psmyth12) July 7, 2020
Let’s start with these two tweets from Patrick Smyth and the Broncos:
Shanahan is one of just six head coaches in NFL history to win multiple Super Bowls and be part of 200+ wins as a coach with one team.
Smyth followed that up by saying Shanahan ranks in the Top 15 all-time among NFL head coaches in career wins. Shanny joins Bill Belichick, Don Shula, Tom Landry, Chuck Knoll and George Seifert with that distinction. Needless to say, Shanahan is with iconic company.
For good measure, here’s a stat courtesy of Andrew Mason that speaks to how consistent and great Shanahan was:
The Broncos led the league in both 1,000-yard rushing seasons (11) and 1,000-yard receiving seasons (18) during Shanahan’s 14 years as Denver’s head coach.

Now let’s follow up with an induction to the Hall of Fame.
