Will the Broncos Randy Gradishar finally get his place in the Hall of Fame?

Gradishar is one of 10 linebackers to hold the stat line of 20+ career interceptions, 10+ fumble recoveries and 7+ Pro Bowl selections. The other nine earned induction within two years of Hall of Fame eligibility.

Good morning, Broncos Country!

Another year, another push for Randy Gradishar.

The fact that this still needs to be done is beyond ridiculous, but here we are here.

The Seniors Committee must send the Denver Broncos linebacker to the full Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee this year. I’m not sure on the specific date when the Seniors Committee will meet, but it should be in the next few weeks.

The 2021 class will have three seniors and contributors. While it’s not clear on the breakdown — two seniors and one contributor or two contributors and one senior — my guess is it will be two seniors and one contributor. The 2019 had only one senior inductee. The 2020 Centennial Class was an outlier with 10 seniors included.

However it breaks down, Gradishar needs to move out of the Seniors Commitee this year.

On the MHR Radio Podcast, Adam Malnati gave me the floor to have a rant. I still can’t believe one of the best players to play his position is still waiting to get inducted.

As Andrew Mason first pointed out, and others have picked up on, this is all that needs to be presented to the Seniors Committee:

There have been 10 linebackers in NFL history who have 20+ career interceptions, 10+ fumble recoveries and 7+ Pro Bowl selections.

Of those 10, eight were on the NFL 100 team.

Of those 10, nine were inducted into the Hall of Fame within two years of eligibility. Two mother-effing years.

The one who isn’t enshrined?

Randy Gradishar.

If that’s not enough for the Committee, here’s a quote from Hall of Famer Merlin Olsen that I included in my push for Gradishar two years ago:

“If you ask me to name the five best linebackers I played against or had a chance to cover in my broadcasting career, Randy Gradishar would be on that list. He was the kind of player that I would have loved to have as a teammate. There is no question about credentials here; Randy Gradishar belongs in the Hall of Fame.”

The time has come.

Get Gradishar in the Hall of Fame.
