The Denver Broncos offense had an off day on Sunday. They just seemed out of sync during practice. When Offensive Coordinator Pat Shurmur met with the media afterwards, he was asked on his evaluation of the offense after eight practices.
“I think we’re working hard,” Shurmur said. “This was our eighth practice together. Typically, your eighth OTA is somewhere back in the spring. I feel really good about how all our players embraced the Zoom portion of the year. I feel good about their attention to detail and they’re ability to learn. When we go out to practice, we compete. There’s always mistakes in practice, but I rarely see the same mistake twice which is good. Normally when you compete against each other, there’s good plays and bad plays. Sometimes, everybody wants to walk away from a practice and say the defense won or the offense won. I’ve never seen it that way. Sometimes the twos are going against the ones and the ones are going against the twos. Sometimes we’re working on certain situations that’s tilted more toward the offense than the defense. The important thing is to learn, to grow and to do a lot of the things that we’re going to do during the season. We have to quickly develop an inventory of passes that we’re going to go to—runs, RPOs, the things we’re going to use during the season—and do it quickly.”
The growth of the offense is happening, but the shortened offseason is definitely going to impact them early on in the regular season.
Let’s get on with the live updates from Day 9 of Broncos camp.

With injuries to Davis and Strnad, you wonder if Justin Hollins might see more time at ILB. When @AllbrightNFL and I interviewed him this offseason he told us he expected to play mostly OLB this season. Reason I bring it up is he’s currently doing drills with the rest of the ILBs

It’s Deja Vú all over again. Your ILB group looks like it did last year when Justin Hollins was working there alongside, Alexander Johnson, Josey Jewell, Joe Jones and Josh Watson...and Todd Davis was dealing with a calf injury. #BroncosCamp @KOAColorado pic.twitter.com/WHrBY0HHMp

#Broncos No. 1 offense opens against scout team-type defense. Speed is good. Getting pace and tempo going is part of building confidence. QB Brett Rypien working as safety in this scout team look. Having some fun with it while putting in the work. #Denver7

#Broncos will reportedly place rookie ILB Justin Strnad on IR with wrist injury. https://t.co/dVzbHBNLHl
— MileHighReport (@MileHighReport) August 24, 2020
Strnad had also been doing some good work in the box & as a sub-package blitzer in practice, showing signs that he could eventually develop into an every-down LB, and not just a sub-package coverage specialist. (2/2)

Royce Freeman continues to come on strong these past few practices. Just ran a great route out of the backfield and made an over-the-shoulder TD catch on a throw from Lock.
