Broncos’ superfan ‘Rescue Rob’ Garner gets inducted into ‘Hall of Fans’ in Canton

It’s great when the Hall of Fame opens its doors to the Broncos, even better when it does so for a fan.

It’s not every day the Denver Broncos get a another representative in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It’s even rarer for it to be a fan.

Earlier this month, “Rescue Rob” Garner attained pro football fan immortality when we was inducted into the Ford Hall of Fans at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

Garner, a firefighter from Ft. Collins, gained notoriety for sporting Broncos-clad firefighter gear, helmet and all, at Broncos tailgates before games. How do you know it’s him? Look for the bright orange firetruck emblazoned with the logos we all love.

From being nominated by Champ Bailey, to a strange call from Mike Shanahan, to the knock at his hotel room door by Hall of Fame President and CEO David Baker with the news, it was a whirlwind experience the likes of which any fan (especially this fan) would be jealous.

Laurie Lattimore-Volkman and I sat down with Rescue Rob to find out all about this tremendous honor. From receiving his Hall of Fame jacket, ring, and display within the Hall, Rob’s story is an amazing one. Check out the Something Something Broncos podcast below to find out how he got his fire truck, what happened when it once ran out of gas, and just what it’s like to be a Hall of Fame superfan.

“It was awesome. It seems a little bit unreal. I know there are a lot of fans in Broncos Country that deserve it too and for the Broncos to pick me, and Champ Bailey to come to my house, and Broncos Country to support me though the whole thing it’s mind boggling,” Garner told us. “It’s really, really awesome and humbling and I couldn’t be more excited. I can’t believe it.”
