Can the Broncos DBs step up against the Steelers?

Brandon Krisztal joined BCT to discuss

The secondary for the Broncos was the latest area of injury of frustration. With AJ Bouye separating his shoulder, some of the young DBs on the roster are going to have to step up.

Broncos insider for KOA, Brandon Krisztal, joined Ryan and Ben on Broncos Country tonight and discussed the options for Vic Fangio in the defensive backfield. It looks like Michael Ojemudia and Essang Bassey will fill the gaps for the missing.

De’Vante Bausby, Davontae Harris and Duke Dawson seemed to be the next guys up, but Bassey and Ojemudia are the players that Fangio likes in that role. Ojemudia was a Fangio draft pick according to Krisztal. Bassey flashed in training camp, as an undrafted free agent.

It could be a sneaky move by Fangio, or it could backfire. As Ben said, teams will definitely pick on the young DB’s until they prove they can handle themselves.

It’s be a tough spot for the Broncos defense. The Steelers will pose a big problem for Denver. If Ben Roethlisberger can find an area to exploit, he will.

The first few weeks of the 2020 NFL season have proven to be anything be smooth for Denver. Injuries, and inexperience could hold the Broncos back. A loss to the Steelers isn’t the end of the world, but after the struggles of Week 1 against the Titans, there are real concerns about whether the Broncos can make this the season they get back to the playoffs.

It’s early, but it gets late pretty early when you are dealing with injuries, youth, and inexperience.
