Worst case scenario playing out for Broncos

It can always get worse, but did you think it would be this bad this early?

NFL: Denver Broncos at Pittsburgh Steelers Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

When Von Miller went down with an ankle injury before the start of of the season, did you think that the Denver Broncos would be where they are now?

Nobody could have predicted injuries to Courtland Sutton, Philip Lindsay, and A.J. Bouye going into their week 2 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and fewer would foresee Drew Lock, Courtland Sutton (again), and Jerry Jeudy all missing time in the game due to injury.

While Drew Lock’s shoulder and Courtland Sutton’s knee appear to be more of a concern than Jeudy’s ribs, these injuries are already concerning for the long term prospects of the Denver Broncos in 2020.

Backup quarterback Jeff Driskel did a serviceable, if not admirable, job keeping Denver in the game. However, yet again they were not able to get it done in crunch time and Denver is again staring at an 0-2 start. The Broncos haven’t opened up 0-2 in back-to-back years since 1965.

It’s never good to be teetering on the verge of historically not good (to put it kindly). Ordinarily, I’d be quick to pin blame, but it doesn’t seem fair to parse responsibility as injuries mount. It’s rapidly becoming apparent that the responsibility of this year will rest upon those that rise to the occasion and overcome the adversity of 2020.
