Broncos have historic success playing Tom Brady

Good morning, Broncos Country!

Whenever Tom Brady plays the Denver Broncos, there is one requirement.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback has a losing record against the Broncos. As I noted in the Buccaneers-Broncos preview, Brady is 8-9 all-time against Denver. He also has a losing record in the Mile High City at 4-7. Of course, all of those games were with the New England Patriots.

Can the Broncos give Brady and Tampa Bay the “L” on their way out of Denver?

I literally have no idea. When Adam Malnati and I recorded the MHR Radio Podcast, I was way more pessimistic. Now, I tend to think that Denver can go 3-0 against the spread. The Broncos are currently a +5.5 underdog. But that could be my orange and blue goggles.

The key to the game is to protect Jeff Driskel and get after Brady. In terms of Driskel, that could come in the form of offensive coordinator Pat Shumur using Melvin Gordon as a receiver. Denver will also need to give whomever plays right tackle some help with Shaquil Barrett. If Barrett goes off, the Broncos will have a long day.

As for Denver’s defense, it has to pressure on Brady. If he has time to find the likes of Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, again, it’ll be a long day. The defense has to pressure Brady, hit Brady, sack Brady. Whether it’s Bradley Chubb and the edge rushers or the interior guys, that’s how the Broncos can take some of the pressure off of the secondary. I would love to see Brady have Chubb in his face on a consistent basis.

But as far as the game, I really have no clue what to expect. Though I’m hopeful that Denver can send Brady back to Tampa with another “L” on his all-time record against the franchise.
