Good Morning, Broncos Country!
We made it. The long winter is lifting, and football games are just around the corner.
There is no doubt that many questions swirl around the team. Questions about the offense. Concerns about linebackers. Can Drew Lock be the guy? Is the offensive line going to fall apart? Will Bradley Chubb return to his pre-injury form? Will Von Miller bounce back after a “down” year?
I could keep going, but one area that I don’t have a lot of concerns with is the interior of the defensive line. With the addition of Jurrell Casey, the defensive line should be a strength of the defense.
With the final cuts, the rotation upfront will include Casey, Shelby Harris, Mike Purcell, Dre’Mont Jones, DeMarcus Walker, and rookie McTelvin Agim.
Ian St. Clair and I discussed the defensive line on the MHR Radio Podcast. The biggest contribution this season could be how they influence the pass rush.
We know the Denver Broncos have one of the best pass rushing duos in the NFL in Miller and Chubb on the outside. If the interior D-line can get to the QB, the Broncos defense will keep more than a few offensive coordinators up at night.
With the potential dominance inside, Chubb and Miller should be the biggest recipients of QBs trying to escape the rush. With questions about the cornerback position, getting a good push up the middle, and forcing the QB off his spot will go a long way to plugging the potential holes in the secondary.
It feels good to have the football season around the corner. It might not feel that great for Ryan Tannehill on Monday Night Football.
