The Denver Broncos have been busy Sunday filling out their 16-man practice squad. Their initial 53-man roster is set and now their 16-man practice squad is too.

The biggest surprise cut in De’Vante Bausby cleared waivers and he will remain with Denver on the practice squad - he turned down seven offers for other team’s to join their practice squads. Other notable additions were seventh-round pick Derrek Tuszka and undrafted running back LaVante Bellamy.

It is never easy to go through this process. At least, with an expanded practice squad this year, President of Football Operations / General Manager John Elway gets to come back to 16 of the players he had to “fire” on Saturday and “re-hire” them on Sunday.

“The good thing is in my 16-year career I never had to visit it,” Elway said when asked if it ever gets easier letting players go. “That’s a good thing, but no it doesn’t get any easier. I think these kids want to make it. I think this year’s very different. The good thing is this year that we didn’t have to cut as many guys because we were at 80, plus we get to bring back four more than we did last year. It’s really—today there’s 11 guys who won’t be back tomorrow which is much less than the usual 26 or 36 guys that we have to cut going from 90 to 53. It was a little bit easier in that respect, but it’s always difficult because all these kids have dreams. They’ve come to camp with the idea that they want to make the football team. It’s no fun breaking their dreams.”

They got down to 53, but now they’ve re-added 16. That’s a lot more players than a normal year would have on a team. That’s a good thing. Under the new rules, the Broncos can also add protection on 4 players from their practice squad each week that other teams won’t be able to poach.

Here is the final 53-man roster as well.
