With the Falcons zeroing in on Terry Fontenot, Mike Klis says he has “leapfrogged” Champ Kelly in the Broncos General Managing search

According to Mike Klis, the Saints Fontenot really impressed the Broncos brass.

NFL: New Orleans Saints at Denver Broncos Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, the New Orleans Saints vice president/assistant general manager Terry Fontenot has “leapfrogged” Chicago’s Champ Kelly in the Broncos General Manager race. The Vikings George Paton remains the most likely choice per Klis, but that Fontenot really impressed the Broncos coaches.

Fontenot serves as the Saints vice president/assistant general manager and has been a key mastermind behind building that teams roster into the Super Bowl contender that it currently is.

He has been with the team for the past 18 years. During his time with the Saints, he has worked his way up through the organization and most recently served as VP/assistant General Manager of Pro Personnel. Fontenot spent a total of seven seasons as a pro scout and another seven seasons as director of pro scouting with the Saints as well. So he has quite the background and experience needed to be an NFL General Manager.

However, Fontenot has other suitors out there that right now, seem more likely than him joining the Broncos. The Atlanta Falcons are having a second interview with Fontenot and he is considered a “strong finalist” for the Falcons vacant General Managing position. Also, a Joe Brady/Terry Fontenot Head Coach/General Managing pairing also is the hot rumor right now for the Falcons. So, it’s appearing that we can cross Fontenot off the Broncos General Managing search list.

It appears that it is a two-man race realistically for the Broncos General Managing job and one that George Paton appears to have if he wants it. Adding Champ Kelly in a role under Paton allowing those two to work hand in hand is also something that continues to be rumored as a potential outcome as well.

I think we’re nearing the finish line of this search and sounds like we could potentially hear something as early as tomorrow.
