Will it be big changes for the Broncos in 2021?

The Broncos might be players in the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes

It’s speculation season in Broncos Country. With the hiring of George Paton as the new GM, it will be interesting to see what he does to make his mark on the team.

As I told Ian St. Clair on the MHR Radio Podcast, I am actually excited to see what happens moving forward. I know that all the struggles might push some people away, but Paton could make some big moves that lead to the Broncos finding success again soon.

There’s no telling what the future holds, It certainly appears that the Broncos of 2021 will look a lot different from the Broncos of 2020. With the return of players like Courtland Sutton and Alber Okwuegbunam on offense, the offense will have a slightly different look.

The defense could be where most of the changes occur. AJ Bouye and Jurrell Casey will probably be gone. Shelby Harris and Justin Simmons might not be brought back either, and with Von Miller’s big contract and potential issues of the field he could also be gone.

The changes could be dwarfed by a move that many in Broncos Country are talking about. With the news that Deshaun Watson is asking to be traded, Paton could come in and shake up the whole franchise by attempting to trade for the Texans QB.

At 5-11, and 5 straight years without a trip to the playoffs, the Broncos are miles away from contending in the AFC West. They are also, seemingly, one player away from turning everything around. It’s a QB league, and Watson has proven himself to be a true franchise shaping player.

While the Drew Lock era has been start-stop, and the outcome of 2020 was far from what was expected by anyone, it’s likely that he will be the starter Week 1 in 2021. Still, the opportunity to bring in a player that changes the future of team is hard to ignore.

There are free agent issues to be dealt with. The draft is fast approaching. So many aspects of the team will change over the next few months. All that is important, but nothing is more important than what is going to happen at QB.

Could it be a trade for Watson? It can’t hurt to ask.
