This game is going to be huge for Drew Lock, which is something I probably say every week, but it feels especially true this week since this is the last opportunity he’ll have to put some tape out there for him to study and review heading into the 2021 season.
The Broncos brought in Pat Shurmur as the offensive coordinator specifically to help Lock develop in the NFL as they felt Rich Scangarello wasn’t getting the job done there. However, with no offseason and a brand new offense the growing pains have been very hard for Lock and the offense.
Head Coach Vic Fangio was asked if he felt Shurmur was a good fit for the young offense moving forward into 2021 and he seemed very comfortable with where things are heading on that side of the ball under Shurmur’s leadership.
“Yes, I do,” Fangio said. “I think Pat’s a great fit. [He] brings a wealth of experience and knowledge. I think he’s got a calm demeanor. [He] has been doing a good job of mixing our run-pass plays on the early downs, both what type of runs we’ve run and short, intermediate, and deep throws. I think it’s been a learning process for all guys. The players learning the system and Pat learning our players and what’s the best formula, what’s the best approach with the guys we have. I’m excited about what Pat can bring to us moving forward.”
If you believe in Lock, keeping the offensive system in place is going to be critical for him. This move is the right move and we’ll see how it plays out next year. But this game is still important from that standpoint, especially for Lock.

Broncos Betting Odds
According to SportsBetting.com, the Broncos are underdogs again for the 16th straight game in 2020. They are down 2.5 points to the Raiders at home, which only adds insult to injury there. The over/under is set at 50.5.
The Broncos and Raiders have a long history of rivalry. The Raiders built up a massive early lead in the 60s and 70s, but the Broncos have been more dominant since. However, in recent years the Raiders have had the Broncos number winning six of their last ten meetings.
It feels like most fans have made up their minds about the 2020 Denver Broncos and are either holding firm in their confidence level or not. The moves upwards or downwards with the wins and losses are less extreme than they have been all season long. Currently, fan confidence has fallen from 50% last week to 43% this week after their Week 16 loss to the Chargers.
Cover 2 Broncos with Joe Rowles interviewed Eric Jensen to preview the Broncos game against the Raiders this week.
Laurie Lattimore-Volkmann, Jess Place, and myself on the SSB Podcast insist that fans should always want the team to beat the Raiders regardless of draft position.
