According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Denver Broncos requested to interview Patriots’ assistant director of player personnel Dave Ziegler for the teams General Manager position.

Zeigler currently serves as the Patriots assistant director of player personnel and could join a long list of former Patriots front office types to become General Manager’s elsewhere.

He was given this role just this past year by the Patriots after losing Monti Ossenfort to the Tennessee Titans. Here is what Bernd Buchmasser of Pat’s Pulpit had to say about the move at the time.

Dave Ziegler, who had served as New England’s director of pro personnel for the previous four seasons, will now work as its assistant director of player personnel. Accordingly, the 43-year-old can now be seen as the right-hand man of Nick Caserio who himself signed a contract extension to stay with the Patriots earlier this year.

Here is what ESPN’s Mike Reiss had to say about Dave Zeigler in 2016 after listening to what Nick Caserio had to say at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The 38-year-old Ziegler broke into the NFL with Denver in 2010 (under McDaniels), and those who have worked closely with him in the NFL describe him as an attention-to-detail-type grinder with a knack for understanding a player’s strengths and weaknesses while not sitting on the fence in his evaluations.

For understandable reasons, Broncos fans will not want anyone connected to the Patriots to serve as the teams General Manager. However, Ziegler at least seems worth an interview, especially with former Patriots front office types earning General Manager roles around the league. He wouldn’t be my first choice, but he’s worth the due diligence.
